Doubling Down on Two Piece of Advice That Readers Hate to Hear

The two unpopular pieces of advice…be open to physically moving to make your dreams come true in your career and retirement

And

Don’t buy a time share.

People (including me) do not like change. However, when things are not working out as desired, change may be needed.

Moving, especially from the area where you were raised and have friends and relatives, is about as much change as I can imagine. I ended up going through the moving trauma 14 times…and it made my life. There is a great big world out there…full of opportunity…for those who are willing to seek it out where ever it might be. You will survive the move, love most of it, hate a few parts of it and find great ways to make it work for you and those you love. Not fully satisfied with your career progress or the enjoyment of your retirement years…bust a move.

Second, I am not as good a sales person as those who sell you time shares. In fact, when I tell you they are a bad investment that will eventually become a burden to you and your family…I can almost always hear dead silence or get the stink eye from the listener. Yes, there are great time shares…but you can duplicate them or better without tying up your money forever. Do the math…do some research and realize that every timeshare owner you speak to will be defending the mistake they made when they got that second free mai tai and signed up for decades of financial commitment and spent WAY too much money for the time share.

I am old, been there and done that, and I am telling you that I am right on the top two pieces of advice. My wife, Linda, will be quick to point out when I am wrong…which is often…but she will back me up on the above two items. Be open to a move and do not buy the time share.

Aloha.
