The Official Press Release for The Geezer’s Guide to Adventure

Timing is everything and sometimes…my timing is not perfect.

I started a new book series called the Geezer’s Guide.  The first of these short books with photos focused on an overall view of adventure during our senior years…let’s say…from 50 up.  I pick 50 because before I was 50 I always thought I could do anything.  After 50, I had to give it a moments thought before proceeding. At my age now, 78, I am pretty much back to how I viewed things before I hit 50…if it sounds fun, let’s see if we can do it.  How does that work out?  Well, it often works out great and adds new adventure and experiences to my life.  And other times, I find I am in over my head and have to withdraw and find something else to do.  Linda has helped me to frame up those “failures to proceed”…a phrase I am borrowing from my friend, Ron Ellenbaas.  When something goes wrong and I find out I really can not do something without getting eaten or injured…she reminds me I am a writer and shouts out “Chapter!”  And…she is right…those new adventures, even the failed ones, end up as chapters in a book somewhere down the line.  So…win/win.

The first book in the series has done well…hit number one seller on Amazon in several specific categories…won the 2025 International Impact Book Award in the “Aging” category…got lots of wonderful reviews and nice letters from readers…gained a couple of podcast interviews that were both fun to do and well received.  So…what does all that seeming success have to do with “timing”?  Simple answer…I wrote the book, launched it and then Linda and I went to the Cook Islands, Denver, Bozeman, West Yellowstone, Yellowstone in minus 40 degree conditions, Oslo, the Lofoton Islands in arctic Norway, Stockholm, the Ice Hotel in arctic Sweden, Frankfurt, San Francisco, Oahu a few times, Los Angeles, and then a solo mission of mine to Santiago and Colima, Chile, the Atacama Desert, the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia, La Paz, Bolivia, Lima, Peru and finally home.  Along the way, Linda dislocated her shoulder and hurt her legs in a fall and I about died of altitude sickness and then got covid.  Net result… six months passed without me promoting the book…not the optimal path for book sales.

So, since I am keen on continuing the series of Geezer’s Guide books, I decided to re-launch the book.  The good folks at Atticus Publishing LLC took on the challenge and are helping me promote it now.  They won me over when they wrote a summary of the book that I thought captured the essence of the book.  Here it is

My philosophy has always been “When I screw something up, learn from it, figure out what you did wrong and fix it or take your beating and move on with life.”  I chose the “fix it” tactic for this book and hope to see it attain the kind of sales that would make me want to continue the series.

The photo at the beginning was taken miles out into the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia.  The salt flats are the biggest in the world and stretch out over the horizon…covered at the time I was there in about six inches of water.  The sun is setting in the photo…kind of a metaphor for myself at the time…the altitude had gotten to me and I was barely able to function.  But, I survived…and have the photos and stories I traveled to get…so all is well that ends well.

Oh, and visit Amazon and purchase a copy of the Geezer’s Guide to Adventure…it is cheap, a short read, will inspire you or those you gift it to add more adventure and fun to their lives…and the travel tips will save you big bucks.  As usual, with all my books, I highly recommend it!

Aloha.
